Toenail Cutting
Many people just can't get down to their feet themselves, for example
if they have back problems or arthritis, so it is helpful to get
someone to cut their toenails for them.
It is imperative that anyone diagnosed with diabetes always seek regular professional foot care.
Ingrowing Toenails
This is a painful condition often caused by wrongly cutting a toenail
and leaving a sharp piece of nail that punctures the side of toe. It can
also be caused by damage to the nail. Sometimes these become infected
and can cause great distress.
Corns
A corn is a collection of hard skin that is often cone shaped and goes
beneath the surface of the healthy skin, and presses on the underlying
nerve endings and often hurts. They can be caused by pressure and friction.
Thankfully they are often easily removed.
Callouses
This is a larger patch of hard skin that goes over the surface of the
healthy skin. These are also caused by pressure and friction. People who
spend a lot of time on their feet are most susceptible to them.
Verrucae
Verrucae are warts. They are caused by a virus, are contagious and can
be very painful. Children and younger adults are most at risk from them.
They can resolve spontaneously but many require treatment as they are
apt to spread throughout the foot. These are frequently caught at swimming
pools and communal showers.
Athlete's Foot.
